School of Computing

Staff within the School are involved in a wide range of research activities, involving many international collaborations spanning the globe. These pages provide an overview of the research activity of the division: the research groups; the overall strategy for encouraging and improving research; the division's own regular journal as well as recent technical reports.

Groups

There are many active researchers in the School of Computing, interested in a number of different fields. The Computing Research Institute contains the following groups:

• Applied Computational Intelligence Research Unit
  This large research unit is comprised of the following groups:
  • Intelligent and Interactive Systems
  • Artificial Neural Networks Group
  • Artificial Life Group
  • Digital Signal Processing Group (Dept. of Electronic Engineering & Physics)
• CTEST: The Centre for the Transformation of Enterprise through Strategic Technology
• Information Systems Group

Publications and Seminars

As well as containing many staff active in research, the division also encourages and promotes research with organised publications and seminar series:

• Proceedings of the 1st International Scientific Conference on Information Technology and Quality, Athens 5-6 June, 2004, TEI of Piraeus, Greece, University of Paisley, UK. ISBN 1 903978 19 X (Word, 7MB)
• Computing and Information Systems Journal
  This became a fully-reviewed journal in 2002, and recent issues have been delayed.
• Technical Reports
  A series of technical reports. Typically for longer studies than published in the journal, or for rapid publication between journal issues.
• Research Seminars
  Members of the department give regular presentations of their own progress, as well as invited seminars from academic and professional colleagues.
